MEPs condemn new Ukraine censorship law

Yesterday the Ukrainian Parliament passed a bill banning public discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity, in a move similar to Russia. The European Parliament has already condemned the draft Ukrainian law, which violates UN and European legal standards.

With a large majority (430 for, 105 against), the European Parliament has adopted a resolution to condemn homophobic laws and discrimination in Europe.

MEPs worried by serious threats to freedom of expression

Members of the European Parliament are increasingly concerned that several gay pride marches are being cancelled around Europe. These events face violence more often than in previous years, and are increasingly criminalised by laws that forbid publicly supporting LGBT rights.

The European Parliament strongly condemns Russia’s LGBT censorship laws

Today the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the upcoming presidential election in Russia, where it clearly denounces Russian laws which forbid the public mention of homosexuality or gender identity to minors.

European Parliament asks Lithuania to reconsider homophobic laws

Today the European Parliament called on Lithuanian MPs to reject an amendment to the Lithuanian Code of Administrative Offences. The proposed amendment would punish the ‘public promotion of homosexual relations’ with fines from €580 to €2,900.
